Sell or renovate?
This is one of the hardest decisions to make, especially when you’re already attached to your current home. Despite the mixed emotions you might be feeling, it’s important to take a step back and look at all your options with an open mind.
First, you have to determine whether a renovation is financially reasonable. If it ends up costing more than buying a new house, you might be better off buying.
Then compare the neighborhoods and school districts. This is particularly important for homeowners with children. If your current neighborhood and school district are better than the place you’d want to move to, then maybe the best option is to renovate.
If you do end up wanting to sell though, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared to move once you sell your home.
Finally, you probably have some good reasons for wanting to move. Make sure that a renovation will actually provide some solutions to those issues, rather than just putting a band-aid over them.
